Some beaches you reach easily by car, and then there's Agios Georgios Disalona, one of those rare spots where the difficulty of getting there is actually part of the appeal. Tucked between sheer cliffs on the western side of Symi, this small beach is considered one of the most dramatic in the entire Dodecanese, and once you've seen it, the image tends to stick with you. The name "Disalona" roughly translates to inaccessible, and that's exactly what it is. There's no road leading there. The only way in is by sea, usually on small boats departing from Gialos, Symi's main harbor, or through organized day trips that include a stop there. What greets visitors feels almost otherworldly. Sheer limestone cliffs rise on either side of the beach, forming a kind of natural amphitheater around turquoise water. There are no sunbeds, no proper beach bar, just nature in its rawest form.
